This hopefully is the last version of my contents page and as you can see from last time i have chose my main image changed the colour of the subheadings background and added some anchorage 3/4 of the way down the page.

Proof that I manipulated the main image
The main image on this contents page is not what I started out with, here is the proof

my contents page rationale

colour usage, image usage, text and font usage, layout

Colour usage

The main colours I have used on my contents page are red, white and black, which are the colours of my magazine house style because they link in with the target audience of my magazine. i have also used a little bit blue on my contents page and that is just to make something stand out. i have used the colour red for the background colour of the subheadings at the side of the page so that the subheadings stand out because they are wrote in black and white, so they will stand out on a contrasting background. I have also used the colour red for the text in the subscription box at the bottom of the page because yet again the background is black in this part, so therefore a contrasting colour will stand out and thats why I chose red. The other places i have used the colour red is the lines outlining the subscription and editors pick box this is so that you know they are two different boxes and so that it is clear to you. The very last part of this page where i have used the colour red is the information bar at the bottom of the page an this is so that the white writing stands out on the colour red because it is some important information and needs to be recognised. the reasons above explaining why i have used the colour red are just the basic reasons why I have used them, the main reasons why i have used the colour red is that, the colour red represents danger and anger and this might be peoples stereotypically view of people in the music industry who are rock stars because their performances are what some people might think aggressive and thats just the way they perform. the places where I have used the colour white on my contents page is the contents name which is break weekly and i have used the colour white here because it stands out on the background it is on which is red. Other places I have used the colour white on my contents page is for he subheadings that support the main image an I have used white here because the subheadings are actually wrote in black so the black subheadings stand out on the white background. I have also used the colour white for the background of the main image because I edited the main image to remove the background because it looked stupid with the original background it had and white also goes with the colour scheme of the page because white has been used in other places, such as the text in the editors pick box. The main reason why I have used the colour white on my contents page is because the colour white represents purity which could link into the age of the people in the magazine, because my magazine is based on young people in the music industry and the fact that they are young links into the colour white. The places on my contents page where i have used the colour black is the writing for most of the subheadings and for some of the background colour of the page which is at the bottom. The reason why I have used black for my subheadings is that they stand out in that colour upon the background they are on. The main reason why I have used the colour black is that it links in with the genre of my magazine which is indie/rock but mostly towards rock because people might associate the colour black with rock because like I've said before some people might think of rock artists performances as aggressive and to be aggressive you have to have a reason and mainly that reason is bad, which links into the colour black. the last and final colour I have used on my contents page is blue and I have only used blue in one place which is a little box in the right hand bottom side of my contents page which says next week and this box is blue because it is trying to draw the readers attention to it because it is a different colour to everything else an to highlight the importance of what its supporting.

Image usage
I have used 3 images on my content page including the main image. I think my min image for the contents page is appropriate and appealing for the contents page because The person in the main image who is a female is smiling and this represents female as happy people, so that a good ting, and it is also a good thing because you dont want to just open a magazine and find a picture of a misserable person, do you? The image i would say is a close up because its mainly jut a picture of the persons head and a little bit shoulders. The other two images i have used are sub images at the bottom of the page and they are pictures of the magazine front cover itself, in the subscription box and a image of the editor in the editors box. I used the picture of the magazine front cover in the subscription box to support the text because the subscription box is all about subscribing to the magazine and its relevant. I used a picture of the editor in the editorial box because yet again this supports the text and it familiarises the readers with the editor. The shot of this image would be a mediumish shot, its not a long shot because mainly the way you remember someone is by their face not anything else, mainly.

Text and font usage
The text that i have used on this contents page are all of the subheadings, the page title, the quotes, the content inside the subscription box an the editors pick box. The main fonts I have used for the text are simle fonts that I have got from word and they are calibri body and arial. I chose these simple fonts o adress my audience because they dont want to see har to understand fonts. The only special font I have used on this page is the quote that supports the main image and that font is from a website called font space I chose a special font for this part because I wanted the quote to stad out and I think it does.

layout
the layout of my contents page is very similar to my front cover, it is quite a simple layout. down most of the left hand side I have sectioned it off from the rest of the page with a dark red box which is for the subheadings, i have done this because it makes it clear to the reader that this is the main information that you need to know wen you are looking for something inside the magazine an this is clearly and neatly set out for you. I have a bar at the bottom of my page which is split up into two sections, these sections are the subscription box and the editors box, I have put these at the bottom of the page into these two sections because they are extra information that you might want to know, but they are not the most important features of the contents page. my main image is placed on the remaining of the page which is about 3/4 of the right hand side of the page I have done this because I wanted to get it across to the reader that this was the main image, but I didn't want the main image to be too big, just big enough so that it is noticeable to the reader that i is the main one. I think that the layout of my contents page appeals well to the target audience because it is not to complicated and is easy on the eye, because the stereotypical teenager which is my target audience are branded as being lazy and if they are faced with an information packed complicated looking page they will probably not read the page.

This is my finished double page for my magazine, it looks a little blurry because i couldnt upload it any other way.

Rationalle
Colour usage, image usage, text usage, layout and font usage
Colour usage
The colours I have used on my double page feature are, pink, red, grey and black. The reason why I have used the colour pink is to add some femenicity to the page because it links in with the main image, who the article is about. I have used the colour pink for the image in the background which is the symbol D, I used pink here because orinally I used a redish colour and that made the red text barley noticable so i made the colour lighter, which turned out to be pink and the red writing shows up just fine on top of this colour. The reason why I have used the colour red is not that it gives the text coloour variety, but so that it is clear what are the questions in the interview and what are the answers and this separates one from the other, also I have used the colour red because it stands out nice on the background and the text is noticable. The reason why I have used the colour grey is because it links in with the main image which some people would say is black and white, but actually its a greyish colour, so I have used the colour grey to create some colour co-ordination for the page. The places where I have used the colour grey is the highlighting colour of the quotes and I have used this colour here because It highlights the main parts of the text so that they stand out nd yet again like ive said to link in with the main image and to also keep my colour palette as minimal as possible. I have used the colour black because that is the colour of wht text normally is, But I have also used the colour black for the same reason I have used the colour red for the text, to separate the questions from the answers and so that it stands out on the background and is easy to red.
Imgage usage
The image I have used on this page is a picture of the person who the article is about, and I think is very good because it is black and white, which links into the clour scheme of the page, and also the way the person in the main image is looking down onto th text in the article is a really good effect because it shows that the text and the main image link in tgether and the interview is including the person in the main image, so its like shes looking back on what shes said. Also, the way the person in the main image is looking down to the side links in with the quote that is under the main image, which is '' well lifes not all about holding grudges'' so this pose could suggest that she is turning her back on whats happened in the past and doesnt want to surface those problems again, putting everything behind her. The sub image that I have used in the middle of the page is an image of former band twisted souls, which danielle used to be in. I have included this image because it links in with the text because danielle is talking about what her bnd was like and the betrayl her band member gave her. the subimage is black and white and this is to link in with the colour scheme and to link in with the main image. I have used the symbol D in the background and have used this because it is the first initial of danielles name, and it just links in with the whole article and adds a bit of decoration to the page.
Text Usage & font usage
The text I have used is abviosly the whole of the interview, the title, the sub title and the quote under the main image. Text is the vital part of my double page feature because my double page feature is an interview with Danielle Cooper, and in an interview questions are asked and then everything is wrote down then printed onto a page. The font I have used for the body of the interview is calibri body size 10, the quotes are also calibri body size ten but are in capitals, and this shows importance. The sub title is in times new roman, a size 12 and is in bold and italics, the italics links in with the colour pink which adds femenicty to the page. The title of the page, the heading anfd the quote at the bottom of the page under the main image are a font called great vibes from a website called font space and I have just resized them to different sizes.
Layout
I have got a very effective, but simple layout for my double page feature, on one side of the page there is the main image and this takes up the whole page to show the relevance and importace of it, because it is quite important, and on the other side of the page is the text, the interview and this is split up into three colums.

Thursday, 22 November 2012

This looks a bit blurry but its just the way that it has been uploaded, as you can see this is a newer version of my double page feature because I have changed the quote font from the bottom of the page, highlighted the quotes dotted about the page in a diferent colour, which is grey, to blend in more with the image and I have changed the main headline and changed to a different font which I got from the website font space.

Thursday, 15 November 2012

This is a newer version of my contents page, but as you can see there is less on the page because the main images have gone, this is because i want to choose some different main images because i didn't like the last ones, also on this contents page i have changed the subheadings font at the left hand side of the page to make them stand out more.

21st November 2012
As you can see I have made some more changes to my contents page, the changes are a background colour to the subheadings which is dark red and i have changed the text that was white to dark red aswell. Another thing that I have also changed dark red is the lines at the bottom of the page and the text in the subscrption box and the information line background colour. I have made these changes because I think dark red is more of a suitable and blendable colour that goes well with the design and housestyle of my magazine, also the front cover of my magazine has the same shade red on it, so it all links together like i said and creates a suitable housestyle.

The image on this contents page is not my own, but I just tried it on my contents page to see what it would look like, and I like the way it looks so I am going to take a picture of my own with a peron posing like this because it fits well on the page and hopefully i will be finished my contents page.

I did not use this pose
This is an improvement to the previous front cover i had, but the explanation will be the same for the rationale because i have only made some of the red slightly darker and this is so that it blends in more with the front cover of my magazine.

Tuesday, 13 November 2012

As you can see I have changed my contents page from the last one as this has been improven, there still needs to be improvements made, like i would rather have one big picture for the contents page as the main picture and thats about it, i just need to find out what kind of picture i need and take that picture.
This is the first draft of my contents page.

This is proof that i was choosing different fonts for the subheading on my front cover
This hopefully is the last version of my magazine front cover, as you can see i have improved it loads since the last cover i created and think i have reached a final decision on how the front of my music maagzine should look like:)
Rationale

Colour usage
I have tried to keep my colour palette as simple as possible but not to boring, the main colours on my front page are, black, white, red and blue. I have used the colour black for the background colour of the main image. I have used black because my main image is quite bright and therefore a dark background will make it stand out, but i also chose black as the main image background colour because it relates to the target audience of my magazine which are fans of indie/ rock. I think the black relates more to the rock fans because rock is a form of music that people just want to do outrages things, like go mental because it puts them in that mood because the adrenaline that you get when listening to rock is intense, also some people might listen to rock when their angry, which is a 'dark' place thats why i have chose the colour black. I have also used black at the bottom of the page for the same reasons, to make lighter pictures and text stand out when they are on a dark background. I have used black also for some of the text, and this text i have used black for are the subheadings and i have used black here again because the text is on a lighter background so putting light upon dark makes them stand out. The next colour I have used is white. The places where i have used the colour white are the highlight colour for the text at the top of the page which is the sell line and the highlight colours of the main subheadings, also for some of the text that go with the subheadings. For the sell line i have used white because most of the page is red and black so the sell line would stnd out more if it was in a different colour and the colour that i thought would be most suitable would be white because the text colour on the sell line is black and red, so they will also stand out whe placed upon a light background because they are considered as dark colours. I have used white for the highlight colour for the subhedings because the text colour is black and therefore yet again it will make the text stand out, also I have used the colour white here bacause it sections of the different subheaings and just gives the page a neat look. I have used the colour red quite consistentley on my page. I chose the colour red because yet again it links in with the genre of my magazine and the target audience. Some might say that the colour red symbolses danger and anger and I agree with this and thats where it links in with the genre of my magazine because when people watch rock artists perform they might think the look an act quite agressive, with the moves they do and the 'screaming' they have in their songs. The places where i have used the colour red is, the subheadings colum, ' the 100 pages special' at the top of the page and a kind of semi circle plug on the right hand side of the page if you were looking directly at the magazine and finally as part of the text in the sell line. I have used red for the subheadings colum at the side of the page to indicate that these are the most important features inside the magazne and because it makes the page look neat, i have also used the colour red for this because it makes the things on it stand out as they are contrasting colours. I have used the colour red for the semi circle plug because there is a red line coming from the subheading colum that leads to this plug, so i have yet again done it for neatness, bu i have also done it to make the text inside the plug stand out and the text inside the plug is black, so this works quite well. The last places where i have used red is part of the sell line text and the '100 pages special issue' part at the top. Firstly i have used the colour red as part of the sell line which says ' so pick up yours now' to grab the audiences attention and to highlght the importanceof what im tring to get across to the audience, which is to buy the magazine, but not in a demanding way as people then probaly wouldnt buy the magazine, then I have used the colour red for the '100 pages special issue' part at the top because it is on a black background, so it will stand out. Allthough people might link the colour red with danger and agression, i have also used that colour as part of my front cover to bring some brightness to the page, so that the page is not just all black, dark colours which will not make it appealing and just make it look boring. Finally the last colour I have used for the front page of my magazine is blue, I have also used the colour blue to bring a different colour to my colour palette even though i wanted my colour palette to be simple, but adding one more colour wont make any difference as long as it goes well on the page. I have used the colour blue because It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence and faith, and some of these things are what people in the music inustry have, for example confidence, all performers should have confidence when they perform, so that they can perform as best as they can and believe in theirselves. The places where I have used the colour blue is, the main hedline and subheadline and for some of the text that goes with the subheading. I have used blue for the main headline as I feel it would stand out on the background and also because i wanted to bring some posotivity to the page and the colour blue symbolizes that. I have used the colour blue for some of the text that go with the sub headings to link it with the colour blue used for the main headline, so that t wasent just the main headline that was blue, because that would look a bit odd and random, also because it makes the text stand out on the background.
Image usage
I have only used 5 images on the front cover of my magazine, which are 2 propper images of people icluding the main image and a picture of some headphones and two symbols that represent twitter and facebook. Firstly, the picture I have used for the main image is a strong image for a front cover because it it of a female and she is looking directly at you and the expression on her face is serious, this is a good thing because it represents females in a  good way, representing them as being serios, but i also think that the picture i have chose for the main image is  good choice because the framing goes well with the layout of the page and its just the right size. The second image i have used is an image at the left hnd side at the bottom of the subheadings colum, which is an image of a female music artist holding her guitar. The reason why I have used this image is that i thought my front cover needed more images to it so i added a sub image, but also because the image goes with the subheaing above it, as the image is a female this gives the magazine a female domination to it because there are no males on the page. I used the picture for the headphones because yet again they link in with the subheading near it. The picture of the headphones are inside a white plug, which just adds that extra neatness to the page instead of them being square and also it catches people attention, as ts something different. The two symbols i have used for twitter and facebook are for obvious reasons, because the twitter adress and facebook adress is on the page and the symbols symbolize them, but these symbols could have more relevance that that, because what if people couldnt read but wanted to know if the magazine had a twitter or facebook page, the symbols would show them that the magazine has got a twitter and facebook page.
Text usage
There is quite a lot of text on my front cover, but not to much. The text that it on my front cover is the sell line, the masthead, the headline, the sub headline, the subheadings and the price and date. All these are essential for the front cover of a magazine and thats why i have included them all. Firstly the sell line is the thing that sells the magazine hence the name of it. The masthead is the most important thing you should have on the cover of a maagzine and I have one of these and the name of my masthead is BREAK all in capitals letters and this is to highlight the importance that it is the name of the magazine and to make it recognisable on the page. The hedline is based about 3/4 of the way down the page alongside the subhedline and i have put these near each other, for common sense so it is clear to the reader that the headline goes with the sub headline. The rest of the things mentioned above are all essentials so i have included them on my front cover, the subheadings on my front cover are placed neatly down the left hnd side of my magazine and this makes the magazine have a more professional edge to it, because they are not just scattered all over the place. The price and the date are situated on the top left hand corner of the magaznie and are quite small, but not to small that you cant see them because this is the most important information on a magazine, because this is what people take into consideration when buying thre magazine because they want to know that the magazine their buying is still in date and how much it is going to be.
Layout and font
I have used a vairety of fonts on my front page to section differnt parts of the page up, for example the sell line at the top of the page is calibri body size 14. The subheading titles are in different fonts but are the same size which is 16, the first subheading title is wrote in calibri body and the second is wrote in arial, the subheading titles are in dfferent fonts because to show that they are different things and not the same sections. some of the text under both subheading titles that are wrote in blue are calibri body in italics, this is to section of the text so you dont just think that i chunk of text is all about the same thing. Most of the other font on the front cover of my magazine is either arial or calibri body, which are the tow main fonts  have used an when you look at the front cover you can see that they are different colours. The font of my masthead is a font i got of a website called dafont and I called my masthead BREAK, I called it Break because In musical terms this means, A technique in which instruments stop playing for a short period of time, allowing a singer or instrumental soloist to be heard alone, this could relate to when there is a rock band playing and a member from that rock band has a solo part, and the instruments stop playing so only he /her can be heard.  Also I think this is a good word choice because some people might associate rock people and fans of it to be quite violent, which links to breaking things.  I also got this font from dafont because it has a wide range of fonts to choose from, I think this is a good font because it is bold and when things are bold they are more clear and easy to understand. The word I have chosen for the name also goes with the font because the word is break and the font looks like it has been broken, so everything goes well together. The colour is black and this is the stereotypical colour you would relate to rock people and the fans because it’s a dark colour and that could link to their ‘dark’ stereotypical moods. The font I have used for the main headline on my front cover is a font from the website called font called font space and i think that it has a good effect to it so i used it as the main headline. The layout of the contents on the front cover of my magazine is what i would call unusual because i havent seen a magazine with the same arrangements as i wanted to create something original, but the main things that are supposed to be on the front page of a magazine are placed in the right places, expectable positions. The main image is placed in the middle of the page as it is one of the main features of the cover, but slightly to the right, this because there is a subheading colum on the left hand side of the page, i think i have situated things neatly on the coverand this gives a professional edge to it, like it has been created professionally. The masthead on my magazine front cover is slightly covered by the main image, but still so that you can recognise what the name is, even though, but highly doubted if people dont understand what the name of my magazine is if they get to know they will aslo recognise the magazine not just for its name, but for its unique style. The subheadings, as previously said are placed in a colum down the left hand side of the page and this just neatens things up and makes the front cover look neat. I think the arrangements of all the features of my front cover are very neatly situated, and this makes the cover have a professional feel.

Preparation

The first thing before creating my magazine front cover i had to decide on the name for my magazine. The name i chose for my magazine is BREAK, i think this is a good choice of name because in musical terms break means a technique in which instruments stop playing for a short period of time allowing a singer or a instrumental soloist to be heard alone, this links in with the genre which my music magazine is going to be because it is going to be indie/rock and at the begining or end of indie/rock songs, this technique is sometimes used. Also the reason for choosing BREAK for the name of my magazine came to me when i wa thinking about when rock artists peform and they seem quite agressive and when you think of aggresive people you could think that they break things in their aggression. The target audience formy magazine is tennagers aged between 15-19 and are females, this is because the magazine will be female dominated and focuses around the ag range ofthe target audience for people in the music industry. The secondary audience for my magazine would be people outside that age range and they would be male, because stereotypically you wouldnt expect a boy to be reading a female dominated magazine. Because my magazine is female dominated the representation will focus around that gender. The representation of females in my magazine will be that they are very strong and independant and really know what they want to do, i want to shine a posotive light on the young females because normally in the media young people are stereotypically portrayed as being yobs and causing trouble, when they are not all like that, so i want to show what young people can be likeand they can be good and achieve something out of life. The price of my magazine will be £2.99, i think that this price is uitable and affordabl because the people that will hopefully buy my magazine will be teenagers and tennagers dont get a lot of mony if they are unemployed and this is where social groups come in and as tennagers we fit into the category E which means we are quite low down in the heirarchy of social group and because thats where people who are unemployed are considered, so the price of £2.99 is affordable because teenagers could save their pocket money up if they get some or just ask for money of their parents as its not much and the magazine is only released weekly. I would want my magazine to be sold nationally so that it gets a wide customer base so that the recognition of my magazine will expand and the places i would want my magazine to be sold are newsagents and supermarkets because that is where magazines are normally sold.

Monday, 5 November 2012

As you can see i have chosen the image i want to stick with for the main image of my double page feature i think this is the best image out of the ones i was considering as the person in the main image is looking onto the text, which is an interview with her, this gives a good effect. I edited the main image so that it became black and white and i also edited the sub image so that it was black and white, i wanted the pictures black and white because i had been inspired by a double page feature based on lady gaga.

this is the original image i used for the sub image, i recoloured it and then cropped it down using microsoft word, i could of used photoshop, but i prefer to use word when simple things need changing.
this is the original image i used for the main image i also cropped it down and recoloured it again using microsoft word, but firstly i removed the background on photoshop using the lasso tool because if i removed the background on word, sometimes it cut some of the picture out and that is not good.
